HYDERABAD, July 31: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao appeared before the Special Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court in Hyderabad on Friday in connection with the Formula E race case.

According to PTI, Rama Rao appeared before the court along with senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar and former Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) chief engineer B.L.N. Reddy. The three are among those named as accused in the case.

The appearance followed summons issued by the ACB court in May. According to The New Indian Express, the court had directed the accused to appear on July 31 after examining the case material and taking cognisance of the chargesheet.

The Telangana ACB filed its chargesheet in March 2026. According to The Hindu and other reports on the chargesheet, Rama Rao has been named as the prime accused in the case concerning alleged irregularities in payments linked to the Formula E event.

According to PTI, the ACB probe relates to alleged irregularities involving around ₹55 crore, mostly in foreign currency. Investigators have alleged that the payments were made in violation of prescribed procedures during the previous BRS government.

The Formula E race was held in Hyderabad in February 2023. A second edition was planned for 2024 but was cancelled after the Congress government came to power in December 2023.

The ACB registered the case in December 2024 against Rama Rao, Arvind Kumar and B.L.N. Reddy. The charges include alleged criminal misappropriation, breach of trust and conspiracy, according to PTI.

Rama Rao has denied the allegations. According to PTI, he has maintained that the payments were intended to promote Hyderabad’s image and that there was no corruption involved.

The court proceedings will now determine how the case progresses based on the chargesheet, evidence and arguments presented by both sides.
