People come across many things in life; they do charity, offer prayers, but never give up speaking lies. It’s highly recommended that a Muslim should and must avoid speaking a lie. I would like to include a few words from the book ‘Don’t Be Sad’, authored by Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qarni: It goes like, “If there is a loss by speaking a truth and a profit by speaking a lie. Speak the truth because that loss is good for you. One won’t get any benefit in the end by speaking lies. The life of this world is a test, and worldly life is just temporary. Be truthful in any of the matters, and in joyful or sad moments. But again, if one’s life could be saved by speaking a lie, do so.

A man was so dejected that he couldn’t control himself from committing sins. At that time, he met our beloved Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) and asked, “What is the best way to avoid committing sins?” as he could not control himself. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) told the man that he must stop speaking even a single lie. So, the man tried to avoid speaking lies, and people kept asking him how he had spent the day and so on.

Like him, & so be truthful

He took the Prophet’s (Peace be upon him) advice seriously, and he had to. Finally, when asked about anything, he had to tell the truth, so he stopped committing sins, even the minor ones. This is because people do whatever good the Prophet (Peace be upon him) did, and they continue to do so as part of the Sunnah. This means every person needs to be truthful at all times and should do their best to avoid lying.

Often, people mix things up and, to cover and complete their narration of what they experienced to entertain others, speak lies. Some of them are so arrogant that they speak lies every time they open their mouth.

“Let it be, I will try to convince, and so…” will be their words, which are frequently used. They convince some people by using real-life but fake examples and speak lies. If you ask some people, what happened that day? They would respond by saying multiple lies. The point is to gain the reward by avoiding the lies, which the Almighty knows whatever you conceal or whatever you reveal. Patience and control would be so good for even your thoughts to be truthful. Be truthful in any case.
