Apollo Hospitals Celebrates Gift of Life, Honours Organ Donors and Transplant Survivors
Hyderabad, June 6, 2026: Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad marked World Transplant Day with a respectful event titled “A Key That Opens New Hope – Celebrating the Gift of Life” at Hotel Park Hyatt, Banjara Hills, honouring organ donors and survivors, and fostering a sense of gratitude within the community.
Telangana Director General of Police C. V. Anand attended as the Chief Guest, underscoring the event’s importance. Dr Sreebhushan Raju, the Guest of Honour, played a vital role. Dr A. Narendra Kumar, Director of Medical Education, Telangana, and James Neuberger, Associate Medical Director, Organ Donation and Transplantation, NHS Blood and Transplant, addressed the gathering virtually from the United Kingdom, reflecting the event’s high-profile nature.
The programme focused on promoting ethical organ donation and transplantation practices and creating awareness about both living and deceased (cadaver) organ donation. Donor families were felicitated for their selfless contribution, while transplant recipients shared inspiring stories of renewed life and resilience.
The DGP noted that nearly 8,000 to 9,000 patients in Telangana are currently awaiting organ transplants, underscoring the urgent need to increase awareness and encourage more people to pledge their organs. He lauded donor families for their humanitarian contribution, stating that their decision had given many patients and their families a new lease of life.
Apollo Hospitals is India’s largest organ donor transplant

Addressing the gathering, DGP C.V. Anand emphasised that hospitals involved in organ transplantation must function with complete transparency and uphold the highest ethical standards to build and sustain public confidence in the organ donation system. He stressed that organ transplantation services should be carried out on a non-profit, no-loss basis to ensure that the noble cause of organ donation remains focused on saving lives.

Speaking on the occasion, Tejasvi Rao Veerapalli, CEO, Apollo Hospitals Telugu States, said organ donation is one of the greatest gifts a person can offer, giving critically ill patients a second chance at life. He highlighted Apollo’s leadership in transplant care through clinical excellence, innovation, and ethical practices, while calling for greater public participation in organ donation programmes.
He further noted that progressive government initiatives such as Jeevandan and the dedicated Green Channel support provided by the police have significantly strengthened Telangana’s organ donation ecosystem, helping save numerous lives through timely transplants.
The Programme
Senior transplant specialists, including Dr. Raghavendra Babu, Dr. Ravichand, Dr. Gopala Krishna Gokhale, Dr. A. Nagesh, Dr. Chaitanya Bhattu, Dr. Chetan Rao Vaddepally, Dr. Soma Shekar, Dr. Sridhar, and Dr. Satyanarayana, actively participated in the programme.
Later, Apollo doctors and dignitaries felicitated the families of organ donors in recognition of their selfless and noble decision to donate organs, describing them as true lifesavers whose generosity continues to give hope and life to countless patients awaiting transplants.
The event concluded with a collective appeal from medical experts, transplant recipients, and donor families for greater public awareness and participation in organ donation, reaffirming the message that even in death, one can continue to save and transform lives.
